moonletter | Inanna, earth, body, becoming
A soft descent into Taurus, guided by the Queen of Heaven and Earth
Dear reader,
Today, Wednesday Apr 23, the moon is waning in Pisces. The tide of endings. The sacred swim inward. A time for dreaming, resting, clearing the debris that has surfaced since the last full moon.
You may feel softer. Tender. A little more tired than usual. You may also feel a stirring you cannot name. Something under the surface is beginning to bloom.
This Sunday, the Taurus New Moon arrives. And I have been thinking about Inanna, the Sumerian Goddess of Earth and Heaven.
If you listened to this week’s episode of the podcast, you know we began her story from the beginning. We walked with her through sacred laughter, wild knowledge, the art of self-love, and the audacity of desire. We saw her steal the blueprints of civilization and sail across the waters in her Boat of Heaven. We watched her hold a mirror to her body and fall in love with what she saw.
Inanna is not just the goddess of the heavens. She is the goddess of the body. Of beauty. Of sovereignty. Of sensuality as a sacred rite.
Inanna is closely linked to the planet Venus, known in ancient Sumer as both the morning star and the evening star. She was seen rising in the sky before dawn and again at dusk, a celestial rhythm that mirrors the moon's waxing and waning. Like the moon, Venus moves through visible phases, disappearing, returning, illuminating.
This dance of light and shadow, presence and absence, links Inanna not only to the heavens but also to the lunar mysteries of transformation, death, and return.
Taurus, ruled by Venus (and Inanna was later transformed into Venus Astarte) brings an energy that carries so much of Her… the steadiness. The deep-rooted pleasure, the love of touch, texture, time. The earth-based sensuality that does not need to perform, only to be.
Taurus reminds us that presence is its own prayer.
So even though it is Wednesday and the moon is still waning, I want to invite you to begin preparing now. This letter carries the seed of a ritual for Sunday’s new moon. Simple. Grounded. A soft summoning of your Inanna-self.
A Ritual for the Taurus New Moon
Before Sunday, find time to gather these:
A full body mirror
A candle (of any colour)
Something that makes you feel beautiful (a piece of fabric, perfume, an item of clothing, a piece of jewelry)
A small bowl of water, filled with rose petals or flowers/herbs of your choice (your favourites)
Your journal / something to write in
On the night of the new moon, when the sky is dark, make time to be with yourself. Light the candle. Place the mirror where you can see your whole body. Dip your fingers in the water and anoint yourself as if you were Inanna herself.
See what sensations, feelings, come up.
Then look at yourself. Really look. Your face, your gaze, your skin, your sex, your feet. Touch each part with reverence.
Then write:
What do you love about your body, your presence, your power?
What do you wish to reclaim?
What are you ready to receive?
Close by saying your own name aloud. Not in performance, but as a blessing.
As an invocation. Say it like you are remembering yourself.
This is not just a ritual. It is an offering to your own self and to the Divine Feminine. A returning, maybe a reminder that beauty is not we've been told.
Beauty is holy.
Taurus does not rush. Inanna does not beg. The moon does not need to be seen to be felt.
So this week, go slow. Rest deep. Touch the earth. Listen to the Inanna inside you, rising through your skin.
And if you haven’t yet listened to the episode, it’s waiting for you here:
Inanna, Bright Queen of Heaven & Earth
I’ll be back with more soon. Until then, may your rituals be rooted, your body a temple, your name a sacred sound in your own mouth.
With earth, body and myth,
Marianna
I would love to know how this landed with you, if you've done the ritual and what has come of it. I am opening space for us to share.
I felt the Taurean energy that you wrote this with 🙏🏾
