Goddess, Witch, Woman | ep. 8 - Hecate of the Crossroads

crossing thresholds: the mythic power of choosing

Dear listener,

This episode has been waiting for you.

Waiting for you at a crossroads… A quiver in the belly. An old grief, too old for words. A flicker of possibilities.

This is where Hecate meets you.

In the dark. With her dogs, her keys, her torches…

In this first episode of our three-part journey with Hecate, we'll explore her story through myth, history, and memory. As usual, I bring you a very personal crossroad in my own life involving grief, my estranged father, and a very unexpected phone call from a funeral wake.

We talk about:

  • Hecate’s mythic presence in the Persephone story

  • Her Titan roots and power across sky, sea, and earth

  • Her symbols

  • Crossroads as sacred places of transformation

  • Cultural echos

  • What it means to choose… and to live with what we leave behind.

We also explore how patriarchal myths demoted the serpent and turned the wild woman into a warning. (Lilith says hi.)

referenced works and inspiration:

  • Hekate: Goddess of Witches by Courtney Weber

  • Hekate: Her Sacred Fires by Sorita d’Este

  • Goddesses in Older Women by Jean Shinoda Bolen

  • The Homeric Hymn to Demeter

reflection questions (from the episode):

  • Are you at a crossroads right now?

  • What are you leaving behind and what are you choosing to let go of?

  • What do you fear losing by choosing?

  • What would it mean to walk forward even if you're not yet sure?

These are Hecate’s questions. The ones she asks with a torch in one hand, and no judgment in the other.

We walk with goddesses because we are the ones who descend and rise again.

And we need someone to light the way. May we be that for others!

Blessed be,
